Chicago Gaelic Park commemorates the Feast of Our Lady of Knock annually on the third Monday of August with benediction, rosary, hymns sung by the Gaelic Park Choir and a procession to the beautiful grotto. Refreshments are hosted by the Gaelic Park Ladies Auxiliary following the ceremony. The miracle of Our Lady of Knock began on a rainy evening in August 1879, when fifteen witnesses saw a bright light shine over Knock Parish Church. The apparition included the Blessed Virgin Mary along with Saints Joseph and John. Miracles began days after and, following that, pilgrimages to the shrine became an every day event. The visit of Pope John Paul-II in 1979 has inspired even more devotion to the Shrine.
