In 1979 members of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) put a plan in action to acquire land and build a facility for their sporting purposes. They had a broader vision, however. Their dream included a home for a wide variety of Irish organizations and activities. Thus Gaelic Park was born. In addition to Gaelic Park being a cultural center, it has become one of the premier wedding venues in the Chicago Southland and has been hosting weddings for over 25 years. Many changes and additions have taken place since its inception.
What began as one banquet room with accommodations for 100 guests, has now grown into three beautiful banquet rooms that can accommodate events from a fairytale wedding to high school proms, business seminars and luncheons. The pergola and waterfall, and the covered patio adjacent to the Tara Room, is a favorite for outdoor wedding ceremonies, as well as outdoor dining. Throughout the year, many different types of activities take place here at Gaelic Park including: Ireland on Parade, a celebration of the music, song and dance of Ireland March 9th through March 17th, Irish Fest takes place over the 4-day Memorial weekend, Heritage & Harvest Day, Concerts, Sunday Classic Carvery, Mass & Breakfast, Monthly Musical Luncheons, and Mingle & Jingle Christmas parties.
