The Irish and their Faith

The terms Irish & Catholic seem almost synonymous, and so the tradition continues...
with a Monthly Mass celebrated October through May and an Our Lady of Knock Celebration on or around
her Feast Day in August.

Our Lady of Knock Celebration

This year, we will commemorate the Feast of Our Lady of Knock on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

The miracle of Our Lady of Knock began on a rainy evening in August 1879. Fifteen witnesses saw a bright light shine over the Knock Parish Church in an apparition that included the Blessed Virgin Mary along with Saints Joseph and John. The faithful watched and recited the rosary in the presence of this apparition for more than two hours. Miracles began only days after. Pilgrimages to
Knock, in County Mayo began in 1880 and over the years, visitors have grown to more than half a million and with other exceptional healings such as that of the terminally ill. The personal pilgrimage of Pope John Paul II in 1979 to commemorate the centenary of the apparition and to recognize Vatican approval and validation of the apparition inspired even more devotion to the Shrine.

We will honor this astonishing event with benediction, rosary and procession to the Grotto. Refreshments hosted by the ladies auxiliary will be available after the ceremony.
